Amigas de la Comunidad

Junto con profesores y estudiantes universitarios, las madres inmigrantes latinas conforman el consejo asesor comunitario Amigas de la Comunidad, ubicado en el norte de Virginia. Desde su fundación en 2014, el liderazgo de este consejo ha impulsado importantes investigaciones e iniciativas de acción centradas en el bienestar familiar, el acceso a los recursos y los derechos de los inmigrantes.Junto con profesores y estudiantes universitarios, las madres inmigrantes latinas conforman el consejo asesor comunitario Amigas de la Comunidad, ubicado en el norte de Virginia. Desde su fundación en 2014, el liderazgo de este consejo ha impulsado importantes investigaciones e iniciativas de acción centradas en el bienestar familiar, el acceso a los recursos y los derechos de los inmigrantes.

Community-based participatory action research (CBPAR) [La investigación-acción participativa basada en la comunidad] es un enfoque para realizar investigaciones mediante la colaboración equitativa entre investigadores y las personas directamente afectadas por las circunstancias locales y con conocimiento de ellas. Para orientar el diseño, la implementación y la difusión de la investigación, este enfoque insta a los socios académicos y comunitarios a invertir en la formación de equipos, compartir recursos e intercambiar ideas y conocimientos de forma mutua. El objetivo es que los socios comunitarios lideren o guíen todos los aspectos del trabajo.

En concreto, la CBPAR crea alianzas impulsadas por la comunidad que construyen relaciones de confianza desde la base para:

• Corregir el legado del racismo científico
• Generar datos de propiedad comunitaria mediante métodos de investigación rigurosos
• Implementer acciones para abordar las necesidades de la comunidad
• Informer las decisiones y prácticas políticas

Celebramos el fin de año y la temporada navideña reuniéndonos y envolviendo regalos para nuestra Entrega Anual de Regalos Navideños.

Organizamos "Padres Ayudando a Padres: Construyendo Familias Fuertes", un grupo de crianza de siete sesiones diseñado con, por y para padres inmigrantes para apoyar (1) las habilidades de crianza, (2) recursos/abogacía y (3) la salud mental de los padres.

Documentamos las experiencias de las familias durante la COVID-19 y abogamos por los apoyos necesarios en la comunidad. Esto resultó en cambios significativos en la distribución de alimentos por parte del distrito escolar local.

Trabajamos con nuestros socios escolares para facilitar las Charlas Familiares y apoyar a los padres de la comunidad durante la COVID-19. Los talleres ayudaron a los padres con estrategias para fortalecer el bienestar socioemocional de sus hijos en momentos de estrés.

Comenzamos nuestra Entrega Anual de Regalos Navideños para las familias de la comunidad que tendrían dificultades para conseguir regalos para sus hijos durante la temporada navideña.

Organizamos una campaña de donaciones para proporcionar ropa y juguetes necesarios a las familias de la comunidad. Trabajamos con nuestros colaboradores escolares para organizar un Día de Inscripción Comunitaria en la comunidad y asegurar su accesibilidad. Las familias pudieron inscribir a sus hijos en la escuela, recibir los exámenes físicos y las vacunas necesarias para matricularse, y recibir apoyo sanitario y educativo.

En colaboración con organizaciones comunitarias, nuestro equipo de investigación universitario comenzó a reunirse con miembros de la comunidad e identificó a un grupo de personas comprometidas con el bienestar de su entorno. Así nació Amigas de la Comunidad, ¡y nuestra colaboración dio comienzo!
